Resources of the State in providing support to businesses and citizens are rather limited. It is well understood by all of us. Hence, resource targeting will have the vital importance in the second wave of the pandemic when designing a support package for businesses and social security. It was stated by Giorgi Gakharia, Prime Minister of Georgia at a meeting held with heads of business associations today.

Meeting with business associations of the country was attended by representatives of small and medium enterprises. The Head of Government of Georgia noted that work has already been launched on the support package for businesses and social security of citizens, though resource targeting will be of vital importance.

The Prime Minister of Georgia underlined that special attention will be made on the hospitality sector, as one of the most affected areas of the economy within the targeted support agenda.

Giorgi Gakharia spoke about the government strategy at the stage of adaptation and management of the pandemic, which envisages spot restrictions and thereby noted that systemic restrictions or a so-called lockdown is not planned.

"When we say that systemic restrictions are not intended and only spot restrictions will be enforced, all of us need to understand that it comes at a cheaper price, as we need to wear facemasks and comply with basic rules at shops, restaurants, hotels, fairs and markets, public transport, enterprises and many other venues. It is all we can. Nobody asks you anything else than this, but no compromise will be made here" stated the Prime Minister of Georgia.

Giorgi Gakharia also spoke about the positive trend witnessed in the economy of the country in 2019 and early 2020. He noted that irrespective of the crisis, positive recovery trends are observed in certain areas already. The Head of Government of Georgia stated that the country has one of the best positions for recovery in the post-pandemic phase and urged businesses to get prepared for attracting new investments and creation of new employment opportunities, which will be particularly supported by the State.

"2019 was one of the best years for the economy. We started 2020 with a very good momentum, though we have seen what happened afterwards. Hence, recovery has already started in areas except tourism and hospitality. Good trend is witnessed in exports. Overall, on the grounds of a comparative analysis, we seem to have one of the best positions for recovery in the post-pandemic phase. Nevertheless, challenges will be many. Nobody knows and even when 8 months have passed, nobody can project what will be the depth of the second phase. State resources for support of businesses and individual citizens are rather limited. We all understand it well. Thus, resource targeting will be vitally important" noted Giorgi Gakharia.

Meeting of the Prime Minister of Georgia with heads of business associations operating in the country, including representatives of small and medium enterprises, was held at the Government Administration today and almost 25 business executives attended it.
