According to Giorgi Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture, 14,000 tons of wheat imported from the United States will increase the country's reserves.

The point is that Georgia received 14,000 tons of high-quality American wheat within the project frame “Food for Progress”.

The Ministry of Environment Protection and Agriculture noted, that implementation of the five-year program began 3 years ago, under an agreement between the United States and Georgia.

Another ship loaded with wheat from the United States will arrive in Georgia, and in total, Georgia will receive 54,000 tons of wheat under the program “Food for Progress”.

"According to the recommendation of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization and the established standard, we should have wheat reserves within 80 thousand tons. At present, our stocks are much higher due to the pandemic.

However, 14 thousand tons of wheat received from the USA will increase the quantity of stocks. Special thanks to the Government of the United States and the American people for their assistance, which is especially important in the current context," said Giorgi Khanishvili, First Deputy Minister of Environment and Agriculture.
