The head of the NCDC, Amiran Gamkrelidze told Channel 1, that Georgia will receive 450-490 thousand doses of AstraZeneca vaccine through the COVAX platform in Q1, 2021.
"We have been guaranteed that that the country will receive about 450-490 thousand doses of Astrazeneca in Q1. Throughout a year this will amount to 1.1 million doses", Gamkrelidze said.
According to the head of the NCDC, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and embassies work hard to receive additional volumes from their surplus doses from the EU countries, manufacturers, Korea, India, Canada.
“The EU, as well as other rich countries, promised us to give additional doses from their surplus doses. We already have some figures from those countries. The pharmaceutical industry is lagging behind the scale of vaccine production forecasted in December," Amiran Gamkrelidze said.
According to the NCDC, Pfizer must decide by January 29, whether the company will deliver additional vaccine doses to Georgia, which are intended for vaccination of healthcare staff.
