FDI in Azerbaijan Increased by 6% in 2020

Foreign direct investment (FDI) in the economy of Azerbaijan in 2020 amounted to US$ 4 527 700 000, which is 5.9% up from 2019. The main share, or 86.6% has been invested in oil and gas sector. 
 
In 2019, foreign direct investment in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to US$ 4 275 200 000. Thus, in 2020, FDI increased by 5.9%, local media reports based on the data provided by the Central Bank of the Republic of Azerbaijan. 
 
In the first quarter, FDI in the Azerbaijani economy amounted to US$ 1.2 billion, in the second quarter - US$ 0.9 billion, in the third quarter - US$ 1.3 billion, in the fourth quarter - US$ 1.1 billion.
 
According to the balance of payments data for 2020, 86.6% (in 2019 - 78.3%) of foreign direct investment was invested in the oil and gas sector.
In the non-oil sector, the volume of foreign direct investment in 2020 amounted to $ 605.6 million (a decline of 34.9%), the relative share - 13.4%.
 
According to the CBA, in 2020, Azerbaijani companies made direct investments abroad in the amount of $ 825.3 million (a decline of 2.9 times), including in the oil and gas sector - $ 253.7 million (a decline of 3.8 times), other sectors - $ 571.6 million (a decline of 2.5 times).
FDI in the economy of Azerbaijan in 2019 increased by 4.9% compared to 2018.
