The StopCov Fund was created by the Georgian government to accumulate local funds to help fight the coronavirus pandemic in March 2020.

The StopCov Fund accumulated more than 138 million GEL and the list of responsible businesses was created as well. It should be noted that Bidzina Ivanishvili’s CARTU FOUNDATION donated 100 million GEL.

Unlike fundraising, the government has not conducted such an active information campaign related to the funds spending. However, initially it was noted that spending of the money should be coordinated with the Business Ombudsman and the private sector for the identified needs.

According to the Budget Performance Report, a total of 132.9 million GEL was spent from the fund.

As of the information requested by InterpressNews, the use of fund resources actually started in August, 4 months later after their enrollment.

The government of Georgia spent the main part of the funding - 122.9 million GEL on the projects announced before the parliamentary elections, including issuing the assistance of 200 GEL for children.

In addition, 3.6 million GEL was allocated to strengthen the capacity of 112 call centers and 5.7 million GEL was given to the Ministry of Education for schools’ disinfection.
