$21.6 mln frozen on the accounts of subsidiaries of Russian banks in Kazakhstan

About 9.2bn KZT (US$ 21,594,590) were frozen on accounts in subsidiaries of Russian banks in Kazakhstan since introduction of sanctions – reported Madina Abylkassymova, the chairwoman of the Agency for Regulation and Development of the Financial Market in Kazakhstan.

“Some foreign banks blocked correspondent accounts in foreign currency of Sberbank JSC, Alfa-Bank JSC and VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) JSC. According to the information of banks, the balances of total amount equals to about KZT9.2 billion - said Abylkassymova, answering the request of the deputies of the Mazhilis.

“Foreign banks blocked payments in foreign currency for certain clients of Sberbank JSC in the amount of KZT2.9 billion, in the amount of KZT3.9 billion for clients of Alfa-Bank JSC. There are no facts of blocking funds and transfer operations for clients of VTB Bank (Kazakhstan) JSC " – she added.

“A new shareholder represented by CenterCredit JSC is working under removing the bank from the sanctions list of the United States and a number of other countries,” Abylkassymova assured, KazTag reports.
