Almost 6 Million Russians Registered Unemployed during Pandemic

Before the onset of the pandemic, the number of officially registered unemployed in Russia was 735 thousand. That number was north to almost 6 million during the pandemic.
 
“Almost 6 million Russians registered as unemployed during the 2020 pandemic on the portal of Russian Federal Service for Labor and Employment (ROSTRUD), Work in Russia,” Deputy Head of ROSTRUD, Denis Vasiliev told to local media. 
 
Vasiliev added that presently a total of 10 million job seekers and employers are registered on the platform, and 1.7 million vacancies are published on the portal every day.
 
“According to the Ministry of Labor, which was announced on March 18 by the deputy head of the department Elena Mukhtiyarova, the number of officially registered unemployed in Russia dropped to 1.9 million people,” reads an article, adding that “earlier, the press service of the Ministry of Labor recalled that Russian President Vladimir Putin set a goal to return the labor market to 2019 indicators by the end of this year. 
 
The solution to this problem involves the employment of another 1 million Russians from among the unemployed.”
 
Before the onset of the pandemic, the number of officially registered unemployed in Russia was 735 thousand people as of April 15, 2020. 
 
By mid-June, registered unemployment rose to 2.4 million people. By the end of August, official unemployment reached 3.6 million people in Russia, after which it began to gradually decline.
