"Such large gatherings and unmanaged, vulnerable processes will contribute to the increase in the number of infected people," said Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control. He responded to yesterday's protest by saying that freedom of expression is paramount among human rights but that the right to life and health is higher than the right to expression.

"We have to balance all this. No one can forbid anyone to express their opinion, no matter how unacceptable it may be, but at the same time, all the preventive measures we are talking about must be observed because we live in a period of a pandemic. Such large gatherings and, most importantly, subsequent already unmanageable, vulnerable processes will help increase the number of infected in the country. We will see it in 5-7 days," said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

As for the question - whether it was appropriate to use police measures such as water cannons, etc., the head of the NCDC gave the following answer:

"We, the doctors, are apolitical people. They asked me this yesterday and heavily criticized me for it. We, the doctors, are at the forefront of this huge challenge that occurs once a century. Leave the doctors alone. Do not involve them in politics. We have more responsibility to the community. Do not ask questions in a political tone. Assemblies have a bad effect on the pandemic.

Today's political process prevents an active fight against the pandemic, but today no one can stop it. The new parliament is critical. Let the doctors do their jobs. They are trying to get me involved in the political process. I am not going to be involved in the political process ... I did not answer this question yesterday. Terrible explanations and interpretations were made after my answer. It is not sad to be kicked by someone" - this is how I address Nika Gvaramia today. I can answer the questions, but today I am an absolutely apolitical person," said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

According to him, the cold, snow, water, and large gatherings pose a threat to the population's health and contribute to the spread of respiratory viruses.
