In March 2022 the Consumer Price Index increased by 2.5% compared to the previous month, while the annual inflation rate amounted to 11.8 percent, - show the preliminary data from the National Statics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
According to the report, the annual inflation rate was mainly influenced by price changes for the following groups:
Food and non-alcoholic beverages: the prices in the group increased by 17.8% contributing 5.69 percentage points to the overall annual inflation rate. Within the group the prices increased for the following subgroups: vegetables (27.0 %), mineral waters, soft drinks, fruit and vegetable juices (24.6%), bread and cereals (23.5%), sugar, jam, honey, chocolate and confectionery (20.0%), fish (19.0%), oils and fats (17.1%), fruit and grapes (16.8%), milk, cheese and eggs (15.3%), coffee, tea and cocoa (14.1%), meat (10.5%);
Transport: the prices increased by 21.6 percent, contributing 2.6 percentage points to the annual inflation rate. Within the group the prices increased for operation of personal transport equipment (29.5%), transport services (6.1%) and purchase of vehicles (3.8%);
Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels: the prices for the group posted an 8.4% increase, which contributed 0.85 percentage points to the annual inflation rate. The prices were higher for the following subgroups: maintenance and repair of the dwelling (12.9%), electricity, gas and other fuels (11.3%) and actual rentals for housing (2.4 %).
