The Armenian government has relieved today Aram Tananyan of his post as customs attaché at the Armenian embassy in Russia.

Tananyan was appointed to the post in late January 2020. He was deployed at the Upper Lars Georgian-Russian border crossing to help Armenian importers resolve all the problems that arise.

According to former head of the State Revenue Committee David Ananyan, the decision to create this position was prompted by a string of problems Armenian entrepreneurs encounter at the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Georgian-Russian border.

The residence of the attaché was in the city of Vladikavkaz, the capital of the Russian Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, not far from the border checkpoint.

The Upper Lars is the only overland conduit to the outside world for Armenian businesses. It is of utmost importance for Armenia, which is subjected to transportation blockade by Azerbaijan and Turkey, ARKA reports.
