Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said the government will not re-impose lockdown despite the growing number of coronavirus cases.

Speaking at government meeting Pashinyan said instead the authorities must ensure mandatory wearing of masks in open and closed public spaces and convince the people to get vaccinated as soon as possible, saying the hospitals and clinics have enough resources to inoculate as many as 25 thousand people a day, ARKA reports.

Health Minister Anahit Avanesyan added that so far 852,355 doses of Covid-19 vaccines have been administered in the country.

In her words, 588,562 people (29.4% of the country's population) have received the first dose and 263,793 citizens (13% of the population) the second.

She noted that all medical centers in the country treating patients with Covid-19 are provided with oxygen, although its consumption is extremely high.

According to her, the number of vaccinated citizens among hospitalized patients continues to remain low: only 97 out of over 3,000 people who are being treated in hospitals now.

According to the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 41 people have died from Covid-19 during the past 24 hours. The total tally of such deaths is now 6,532.

In Armenia, 5 types of Covid-19 vaccines are used now- CoronaVac and Sinopharm (China), AstraZeneka (Britain, Sweden), Sputnik V (Russia) and Spikevax (Moderna, USA). Vaccinations are free for people over 18 years old, including foreigners.
