Armenia’s Economic Activity in 9 months of 2021 Grows by 4.4%

Armenia’s economic activity in the first 9 months of 2021 grew by 4.9% compared to the same time span of 2020, the National Statistical Committee (NSC) said.
 
It said also that compared to September 2020, the economic activity in September 2021 was up 2.4%, and compared to August 2021 it was up 12.6%, ARKA reports. 

According to NSC, in January-September 2021 all sectors of the economy, except for the energy sector, posted growth. The official data show that the industrial output amounted to over 1.6 trillion drams, having increased by 0.7% compared to January-September 2020.

In September 2021, compared to September 2020, the industrial output was down 12.2%, and compared to August 2021 it was up 5.9%.

The construction sector in the first 9 months of 2021, compared to the same period in 2020 increased by 6.4% to about 254.5 billion drams. In September 2021 compared to September 2020, the growth was 2.6%, and compared to August 2021 – 10.1%.

The services sector (excluding trade) in January-September 2021 amounted to about 1.4 trillion drams, which is 5.4% higher than in January-September 2020.

According to statistics, the domestic trade in January-September 2021 amounted to about 2.4 trillion drams, having increased by 6.4% compared to the same period in 2020. At the same time, in September 2021 compared to y September 2020, the indicator increased by 1.4%, and in comparison with August 2021 - by 1.6%.

According to the National Statistical Service, electricity generation in January-September 2021 dropped by 2.7% to 5,580.9 billion kWh. The decline in September 2021 in comparison with September 2020 amounted to 12.9%, and in comparison with August of this year - by 4.5%. The Armenian NPP was brought to a halt on May 15 for a 5-month preventive maintenance.
