Armenia's freight transportation up 12.1%

Over 11.7 million tons of various goods were transported in Armenia in the first eight months of 2022, an 12.1% growth compared to the same period of time in 2021,while the number of transported passenger surged by 42.7% to over 97.3 million, according to the National Statistics Committee.

During the period under review, over 8.1 million tons of cargo were transported by trucks, by 13.9% more than in January-August 2021; more than 2 million tons by rail transport (7.4% rise ), about 1.4 million tons by trunk pipeline transport (9% rise ) and 11,800 tons by air transport (13.5% rise).

In the first 8 months of the year, more than 77.3 million people were transported by road transport (47.7% growth), about 17.5 million by electric transport (23.1% growth), over 2.2 million by air (56.7% growth) and 331,800 by rail (19.5% growth).

In the reporting period of 2022, revenues from postal and courier activities amounted to over 10.7 billion drams, up 0.6% compared to the same period of 2021.

Also, 2,324 road accidents were reported in the first eight months of the year, down by 23.6% from the same period of time in 2021. Some 182 people were killed in these accidents, down 26% from the first 8 months of 2021 and another 3,388 were injured (down 24.8%), ARKA reports.
