Following today's meeting of the Interagency Coordinating Council, the Minister of Health said that private insurance companies would be involved in the Covid management process from today. "Our citizens pay quite high costs for their insurance and, consequently, all insurers have this obligation. Also, the doctors who are involved in this program have this obligation," said Ekaterine Tikaradze.

Despite this announcement, insurance companies are still waiting for a specific protocol from the health ministry on when, how, and under what conditions they will be involved in the virus management process.

Nino Kobakhidze, CEO of Global Benefits Georgia, said based on an agreement reached with the Ministry of Health last weekend that private insurance companies would be involved in managing covid-positive patients' treatments at home, but it is unknown at this time what protocol they will use in case the patient's condition worsens. At this stage, the necessary guidelines for medical treatment at home are not known.

As for the cases before confirmation, of course, we can not get involved in this, but when each insured patient is confirmed with Covid, the insurance company's family doctors will be fully involved in managing their medical history.

This is an agreement reached with the Ministry last weekend. However, the training of family doctors has not yet started, and we are awaiting this guideline. A line of technical issues is underway, and the guideline should be adopted today.

It is expected that today we will have another call with the Ministry of Health, and from tomorrow, it will be possible to prescribe medications or manage these situations in another way. Family doctors will be actively involved in this process.

We will not bear the cost of testing before confirmation; however, we will bear the costs necessary for patients' home treatments, regardless of what type of premium the insured pays. The state should manage aggravated patients," said Nina Kobakhidze.
