Georgia, which is sometimes referred to as “the cradle of winemaking” still imports some share of wine from foreign counties. And this is Russia, not France or Spain that are leading the list of countries of main wine importers to Georgia.
A total of 154 800 liters of wine, worth US$ 1,182 000 has been imported to Georgia during Jan-Sep 2020. The figure is twice less than the data of Jan-Sep 2019, when Georgia imported 331 000 liters, worth US$ 1,600 800 of wine.
According to the National Statistics Office of Georgia, with 65, 200 liters, US$ 223, 000 the Russian Federation is the top wine import country to Georgia. The RF is followed by Italy, with 43, 300 liters, US$ 421, 400 and France – 16, 000 liters, US$ 282, 300.
Russia has also been a top importer of wine to Georgia during 2019. 115, 500 liters of wine, worth US$ 411, 700 has been imported to Georgia during Jan-Sep 2019. The second leading import country last year was Spain, with 77, 500 liters, or US$ 157, 600. Spain has been followed by Italy – 41, 100 liters, US$ 385, 900 and Ukraine – 32, 500 liters, worth US$ 111,600.
