Many foreign brands have suspended operations in Russia since the invasion of Ukraine began. As Eva Bochorishvili, Head of Research at Galt & Taggart, these companies are looking for new markets, where they will be able to continue their business activity.
According to her, they are interested in Georgia, which the country should use. Considering all these, Bochorishvili does not rule out the possibility of an increase in foreign direct investments in Georgia.
"Due to the sanctions imposed on Russia, many companies operating in Russia, including foreign brands, are trying to diversify their markets and are looking for certain countries where they can continue their businesses, including in terms of supply the region. Perhaps the number of such businesses will gradually increase.
Foreign companies and embassies have already approached us, as their companies are looking for different countries, including Georgia. So, it also depends on us how well we work with these companies. With this in mind, I assume that foreign direct investments can increase," said Eva Bochorishvili.
