Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control declares, that vaccine diversity in the country will help expand the vaccination process.

According to him, now Georgia will have Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccine along with AstraZeneca and Pfizer.

"Vaccination is the only tool to defeat the pandemic. The best examples are those countries where vaccination is actively carried out, 25% of the population is already vaccinated in Israel, the UK and several other countries where mortality and severity have dropped dramatically. Mortality is at a minimum in the UK today, almost 50% of the population already received a single dose of COVID jab. By receiving 100,000 doses of the vaccine, we will be able to further expand the process and start mass vaccination as soon as possible,” said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

According to the head of NCDC, millions of people already took Sinopharm jab. Apart from China, Sinopharm is widely used in the United Arab Emirates, as well as in several South American countries (Brazil and Chile) and Europe (Hungary and Serbia). Sinopharm has the authorization of about 40 countries," Gamkrelidze said.

On top of that, the Chinese government gifted 100,000 doses of the Sinovac coronavirus vaccine to Georgia, the head of the National Centre for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, said.

NCDC Chair added that Turkey used approximately 15 million doses of the Sinovac vaccine. Besides, Azerbaijan secured half a million doses.

Georgia received 100,000 Chinese Sinopharm coronavirus vaccines on April 3. The country will start to use it after the WHO approval, which is likely in mid-April.
