Irakli Kovzanadze, Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Parliament responded to the preliminary data published by Geostat on economic growth of Georgia in April. Irakli Kovzanadze notes that high economic growth observed in April is very good, but it does not provide a basis for calming down, because there are a lot of economic challenges and “COVID- quiz” ahead.

“I welcome such a high economic growth unequivocally and deeply hope that the trend will continue in the future. However, we had a recession of 16.6% in April last year, so the growth became even more noticeable. Economy restricted due to the lockdown grew rapidly on the background of the easing regulations.

I will repeat that high economic growth in April is very good, but it does not provide a basis for calming down. This is the beginning and we will have a lot of economic challenges and “COVID- quiz” ahead, which require professional analysis and a lot of work”, - Irakli Kovzanadze said.

The Georgian economy grew by a record 44.8% in April. According to Geostat, the economic growth for the first 4 months of 2021 is 8.1%.
