“The political decision on C Hepatitis Elimination Program was based on the human rights respect, and the protection of life and health. The data we overviewed today make us proud. Initially, when the program has been launched, our American partners compared this initiative with the myth of David and Goliath. Today, it’s crystal clear that Georgia played this role in this process and managed to undertake a very complicated project”, - the Vice-Speaker, Archil Talakvadze stated at the presentation of the outcomes of the State C Hepatitis Elimination Program.

The outcome is impressive, he stated, when more than 70000 Georgian citizens have been rescued, including the compatriots from Abkhazia and Samachablo.

“This program has once again proved that the healthcare and humanitarian initiatives can destruct those artificial impediments our society is divided with as a result of occupation today. And now, we can proudly declare that none of the cases are submitted against Georgia to the European or national Courts, when the citizens, due to C Hepatitis and impediments, stand against the country. It is the greatest achievement and this decision was successful because it was made based on the best balance between human rights, healthcare and economy”, - he added and thanked the Health Care Ministers, engaged in this program, healthcare scientists and professionals, epidemiologists and civil society and noted that the Government has expressed its clear political will concerning this program, and the medical specialists demonstrated their commitment in scientific and practical terms.

The presentation of the program was held with the initiative of the Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection, National Disease Control Center, and US CDC.

The Vice-Speaker, David Sergeenko, US Ambassador, H.E. Kelly Degnan, and the Minister of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Protection, Ekaterine Tikaradze also addressed the attendees.

The event was attended by the NCDC Director, Amiran Gamkrelidze, field experts from the US CDC, WHO, and program implementors.
