Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, confirms that demand on COVID-19 vaccine exceeds the supply. Gamkrelidze declares, that the government is trying to increase the number of vaccination brigades.

“More people want to take COVID-19 shots than we supply. So, we must intensify the vaccination process. 161 vaccination brigades are giving the jabs, but some brigades in the regions do not every day. We want to switch to a 7-day working schedule in these cases. We will encourage those medical workers, who work on the weekends. We want to increase the number of vaccination brigades up to 200”, -Amiran Gamkrelidze declares.

According to NCDC Head, per brigade can give 42 to 50 COVID-jabs under normal circumstances, while the number of brigades must reach 300 by the end of July.

“Many people want to take COVID-jabs, but they have problems registering in Tbilisi, so additional vaccination locations should be added”, said Amiran Gamkrelidze.

According to him, 10 thousand people have been vaccinated with "Sinopharm" and 30 thousand have booked vaccination appointments.
