Dollarization at bank deposits in Azerbaijan Down to 41% in 2021

Bank deposits of the population in Azerbaijan (including funds of individuals engaged in individual entrepreneurial activities) in 2021 increased by 13% - up to 9, 241, 500, 000 manats (US$5,4 bln), the Central Bank of Azerbaijan says.

According to the CBA, in 2021, bank deposits of the population in foreign currency decreased by 8.7% - to 3, 789, 300,000 manats (US$2,2 bln), or 41% of all deposits of the population (according to the results of 2020, the share of deposits in foreign currency amounted to 50.8%), Interfax-Azerbaijan reports.

The volume of deposits of the population in the national currency increased by 35.4% - up to 5, 452, 200, 000 manats (US$3.2bln) or 59% of all deposits.

The volume of bank deposits of residents amounted to 8, 940, 100, 000 manats (US$5.3 bln), non-residents – 301,400, 000 manats (US$177, 3 mln). In 2021, residents' deposits increased by 13.2%, non-residents - by 7.3%.

Overall, as of December 31, 2021, the volume of deposits in banks of Azerbaijan amounted to 29, 027,700, 000 manats (US$17 bln), which is 22.6% more than at the end of 2020.
