The President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), Odile Renaud-Basso, will start a three-day visit to Türkiye on 6 October, during which she will hold a series of high-level meetings with senior officials, private-sector clients, civil-society organisations and foreign-policy experts.

The President’s programme will include meetings with Minister of Treasury and Finance Nurettin Nebati and EBRD Governor for Türkiye and Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Fatih Dönmez.

During her stay in Istanbul, Ms Renaud-Basso will also meet with the Governor of the Central Bank of the Republic of Türkiye, Şahap Kavcıoğlu, and Mayor of Istanbul Ekrem İmamoğlu.

Before departing, the EBRD President said: “I am very much looking forward to valuable discussions with our Governor for Türkiye and my other hosts. Türkiye is our largest market and we are absolutely committed to supporting the country’s vibrant private sector in meeting the challenges it faces.”

From Istanbul, the President will travel to Bodrum, where she will attend a round table led by the Centre for European Reform and The Centre for Economics and Foreign Policy Studies and meet with foreign policy experts.

The President’s last visit to the country was in November 2021.

Türkiye is the EBRD’s largest market and the Bank has invested €16.9 billion in 381 projects since it began work there in 2009. More than 90 per cent of its investment has been in the private sector.

On 1 October, the EBRD changed the way it refers to the country historically known in English as ‘Turkey’ to ‘Türkiye’, in line with other international organisations and a request by the Turkish authorities.
