Georgia has found a new market and started to purchase electricity from Armenia from January 2022. According to the Energy Balance report, 136 million kilowatt hours of electricity were purchased from Armenia in the first two months of this year.

As of the report, Georgia purchased 251 million kilowatt hours of electricity from Armenia for its own consumption in 2 months of the current year, which was almost half of its total imports or 45%.

According to ESCO, it is still unknown at what price Georgia buys electricity from Armenia. However, the state always prefers cheaper energy while acquiring it.

Distributing by countries:

• Armenia - 136 million kilowatt hours, an increase over the previous year ∞;
• Azerbaijan - 114.8 million kilowatt hours, a decrease of 62% y-o-y;
• Russia (except electricity supplied to Abkhazia) - 52 million kilowatt hours;
• Turkey - 0 million kilowatt hours (7.5 million kWh in 2021)

Georgia purchased electricity of 303 million kilowatt hours in 2022. In general, the volume of electricity purchased by Georgia this year is reduced by 19% compared to the previous year. This is mainly due to the fact that the country's largest Enguri HPP, is currently operating, while the HPP has been shut down in the same period of the last year, so the country was buying more electricity.
