Share of EU countries in Georgian exports was 19.1%

In January-March 2021 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 2 773.2 million, 0.3 percent lower to the same period of 2020. The exports equaled USD 820.6 million (5.2% higher), while the imports stood at USD 1 952.6 million (2.4% lower). The negative trade balance was USD 1 131.9 million in January-March 2021 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.8%.

Georgian exports by country groups in January-March 2021 are as follows: EU countries – 19.1%; CIS countries - 44.7%; other countries – 36.2%.

In January-March 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 76.7 percent. The top partners were China (USD 109.8 million), Russia (USD 109.5 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 104.6 million).

According to Geostat report, in January-March 2021 copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 158.8 million or 19.4% of total exports. The exports of motor cars totaled USD 86.6 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 10.5%. The ferroalloys exports occupied the third place standing at USD 83.7 million and constituting 10.2% of the total exports.

As for the imports by country groups in January-March 2021 are as follows: EU countries – 22.6%; CIS countries – 31.2% and other countries – 46.2%.

In January-March 2021 the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 71.5 percent. The top partners were Turkey (USD 343.3 million), Russia (USD 220.4 million) and China (USD 182.8 million).

The top import commodities in January-March 2021 were motor cars whose imports equaled USD 168.5 million (8.6% of the total imports). The copper ores and concentrates followed in the list with USD 145.8 million or 7.5 % of imports. The petroleum and petroleum oils were third in the top import commodity list with USD 141.9 million (7.3 % of imports).
