In Q1, 2021, electricity imports to Georgia was up by 93% and amounted to 1.43 billion KWH. According to ESCO, 41% of electricity consumed in Georgia was imported. Such an increase in imports was due to the suspension of the Enguri HPP for rehabilitation.

Rehabilitation works of HPP will cost 43 million EUR, including 7 million EUR is a grant of the European Commission, the remained sum is allocated loan by the EBRD.

As a result of the HPP rehabilitation, the annual output of the hydropower plant will be increased by 80-100 million KWH.
