European Parliament Backs Moldova-Ukraine Candidacy Status, Gives Georgia Perspective

With 529 votes in favor to 45 against, the European Parliament supported the resolution granting Ukraine and Moldova candidate status and giving Georgia a perspective.

According to the resolution, Georgia must comply with the recommendations issued by the European Commission on June 17, 2022, after which it will be granted the status of a candidate country.

"On 17 June 2022, the Commission published its opinions on the membership applications of Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and Georgia, recommending to the Council that all three countries should be given the perspective of becoming the Member States of the European Union, and that candidate status should be granted to Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova; whereas the Commission recommended granting candidate status to Georgia after the country fulfills certain criteria", - the resolution read.
