The former Prime Minister of Georgia, Giorgi Kvirikashvili states his position regarding the third president, prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili.

Kvirikashvili wrote about it on Facebook and said that the fact that the video footage of Saakashvili was insulting is harmful for both the country and the government and "a sarcastic joke about a person in prison is not compatible with Georgian customs."

"Politician Mikheil Saakashvili: The political legacy of the National Movement and President Mikheil Saakashvili, which had more downs than ups, is the hardest for our country. The biggest down was the failure to avoid Russian occupation. The result left by Mikheil Saakashvili was the return of Russian troops withdrawn from Georgia as a result of the great joint efforts of his predecessor and our strategic partners”, Kvirikashvili said.

“Convict Mikheil Saakashvili: All are equal before the law, criminal charges, as a result of which verdicts have been delivered, were confirmed not only by the Georgian judiciary, but also by the European Court of Human Rights in Strasbourg. Prosecutors from the United States, the United Kingdom and Israel were involved in assessing the process and content of the investigation. That is why any conversations about his innocence have no real basis.

Prisoner Mikheil Saakashvili: I think that video recordings of prisoner Saakashvili aired by TVs, especially by Russian TV channels, is an insult to every Georgian and damaging to the country and the government, and mocking a prisoner (no matter how he behaves) is not in line with Georgian and in general with Caucasian customs. I also think that prisoner Saakashvili should be provided by the state with the standard of medical care required by his doctors. This is, first of all, a matter of dignity for the Georgian Dream government and then for the country, because no matter how much we value Mikheil Saakashvili personally and his political legacy, he is still the former President of Georgia," said Giorgi Kvirikashvili.
