NATIONAL STATISTICS OFFICE OF GEORGIA published summarizing report. According to the document, in 2019 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia equaled USD 3. 77 billion (12.4 percent higher comparing to 2018).

In 2019 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 12 834.7 million, 2.7 percent higher year-on-year. Including, export totals to USD3.77 billion USD ((12.4 percent higher), while the imports stood at USD 9 063.2 million (0.8 percent lower).

The negative trade balance was USD 5 291.8 million in 2019 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 41.2 percent. The exports excluding re-exports amounted to USD 2 352.3 million, 5.7 percent higher year-on-year.

“In 2019 the exports from Georgia to the EU countries amounted to USD 825.7 million (13.0 percent higher compared to 2018) and constituted 21.9 percent of total exports, while the imports amounted to USD 2 321.5 million (7.4 percent lower) with 25.6 percent in total imports.

The external trade turnover of Georgia with the EU countries amounted to USD 3 147.2 million, showing a 2.8 percent decrease compared to the corresponding indicator of the previous year.
The EU countries accounted for 28.3 percent of the trade deficit. In 2019 the exports to the CIS countries stood at USD 2 003.1 million (20.0 percent higher compared to 2018) and reached 53.1 percent of total exports, while the imports equaled USD 2 438.6 million (9.5 percent lower) with 26.9 percent in total imports.

The trade turnover with the CIS countries totaled USD 4 441.6 million (1.8 percent higher). The CIS countries accounted for 8.2 percent of the overall trade deficit in the corresponding period”, the report reads.
