Commodity Exports from Georgia to the EU have increased, - according to the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat). According to the document, commodities USD 352 million worth were exported from Georgia to the EU in January-May 2022, which was USD 100 million or 39% more compared to the previous year.
As a result, 22.3% of Georgia's total exports accounted for the EU, while the figure stood at 16.4% last year.
According to statistics, Georgia's main exports to the EU are copper ores, which exports increased by 52% to USD 165 million. The second position is occupied by hazelnuts, whose exports increased by 32% to USD 26 million.
Major commodity groups by exports to the EU:
1) Copper ores and concentrates – USD 165 million, 65,000 tons, an increase of 52%;
2) Nuts and hazelnuts - USD 26.2 million, 5,200 tons, an increase of 32%;
3) Ferroalloys - USD 18 million, 10,100 tons, an increase of 153%;
4) Cars - USD 16.8 million, an increase of 85% over the previous year;
5) Mineral fertilizers - USD 14.5 million, 27,000 tons, an increase of 84% over the previous year.
Nevertheless, the EU is not Georgia's main export market. China ranks on the 1st place among the export markets, where USD 362 million worth of goods were exported in January-May 2022, which was more than the total EU exports. Exports to China increased by 38%. In second place was Azerbaijan, where 224 million worth commodities were exported, the increase totaled to 15%. Russia was on the third place with 210 million, where Georgia increased its exports by 3.7%.
Bulgaria is Georgia's largest export market among the EU countries, where 176 million goods were exported, which is 82% more than the previous year.
