External Merchandise Trade Up By 41.2% Y-O-Y

In January 2022 the external merchandise trade (excluding non-declared trade) of Georgia amounted to USD 1 110.5 million, 41.2% higher to the same period of 2021, - show the preliminary data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).

According to the report, the exports equaled USD 331.3 million (47.6% higher), while the imports stood at USD 779.1 million (38.7% higher). The negative trade balance was USD 447.8 million in January 2022 and its share in external trade turnover constituted 40.3%.

In January 2022 the share of the top ten trading partners by exports in the total exports of Georgia amounted to 82.3%. The top partners were Bulgaria (USD 49.6 million), Azerbaijan (USD 46.8 million) and Russia (USD 42.7 million).

In January 2022 the share of the top ten trading partners by imports in the total imports of Georgia amounted to 69.2 percent. The top partners were Turkey (USD 141.1 million), Russia (USD85.9 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 75.2 million).

In January 2022 the share of the top ten trading partners in the total external trade turnover of Georgia amounted to 70.4 percent. The top trading partners were Turkey (USD 168.7 million), Russia (USD 128.6 million) and Azerbaijan (USD 122.0 million).

In January 2022 copper ores and concentrates reclaimed the first place in the list of top export items, equaling USD 66.3 million with 20.0 percent of total exports. The exports of motor cars totaled USD 36.4 million and their share in the total exports amounted to 11.0%. The ferroalloys exports occupied the third place standing at USD 31.4 million and constituting 9.5 % of the total exports.

The top import commodities in January 2022 were motor cars whose imports equaled USD 80.2 million (10.3% of the total imports). The petroleum and petroleum oils followed in the list with USD 72.7 million (9.3 % of imports). The petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons were third in the top import commodity list with USD 64.0 million (8.2 % of imports).
