FDI increased by 0.2% in 2019

The foreign direct investments (FDI) in Georgia amounted to USD 1 267.7 million in 2019 (preliminary data), up 0.2 percent from the same period of the previous year.

According to Geostat, 48% i.e. 612,5 million USD of total investments accounts for the reinvestment of earnings.

FDI by major investor countries:

1 United Kingdom - $ 247 783 708; 39% increase over previous year;

2 Turkey - $ 236 524 610;  377% increase over the previous year;

3 Ireland - $ 132 728 709;  4103% increase over previous year;

4 US - $ 99 017 100; decrease -3% over previous year;

5 Panama - $ 78 124 815; 5% increase over the previous year;

6 The Netherlands - $ 52 898 249;  decrease -75% over previous year;

7 Russia - $ 50 541 859; decrease -27% over previous year;

8 China - $ 40 411 732; decrease -47% over previous year;

9 Japan - $ 39 205 347, 710% increase over the previous year;

10 Azerbaijan - $ 38 394 528; decrease by 84% over the previous year;

11 Luxembourg - $ 36 491 324; decrease -27% over previous year;

12 Denmark - $ 30 614 158; increase by 101% over the previous year;

13 Korea - $ 21 447 606; decrease -34% over previous year;

14 Israel - $ 19 209 539; decrease -712% over the previous year;

15 Cyprus - $ 18 496 243; decrease over the previous year -122%;

16 France - $ 18 113 316; decrease -27% over the previous year;

17 Czech Republic - $ 18 096 762; decline of -76% y-o-y;

18 United Arab Emirates - $ 17 101 220, decline of 43% compared to the previous year ;

19 Armenia - $ 14 386 030; 46% increase over the previous year;

20 Estonia - $ 12 469 560; 16% decrease over previous year;

21 India - $ 10 200 293; decrease of 341% over the previous year;

22 Germany - $ 7 920 199; decrease of 80% over the previous year;

23 Ukraine - $ 7 589 799; increase of 483% over the previous year;

24 Qatar - $ 7 445 563; decrease of 2% comparing to the previous year;

25 other countries - $ 10 555 309; 142% increase over the previous year;

The share of FDI by three major economic sectors reached 66.1 percent in Q4 2019.The largest share of FDI was registered in the financial sector, reaching USD 138.1 million in Q4 2019, the construction sector was the second with USD 49.6 million, followed by the real estate sector with USD 41.6 million.
