EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell on the treatment of Mikheil Saakashvili. He notes that European Union strongly supports the work of the Public Defender and urges the government of Georgia to take relevant steps in the direction of considering Georgia’s local rights and international obligations.
“The European Union fully supports the Public Defender’s Institute and its deeds and its role in Mikheil Saakashvili’s case so that his rights are defended. We want Saakashvili’s health situation to be in focus and assessed objectively. We would like to see the implementation of those recommendations that are underlined by the events unfolding in last 24 hours. It is important that today’s deadlock is moved forward and relevant steps are taken in the direction of considering Georgia’s local rights and international obligations” – stated the EU Ambassador to Georgia Carl Hartzell.
