David Songulashvili, Chairman of the Sectoral Economy and Economic Policy Committee declares, that GEL strengthening is absolutely natural and it goes with the opening of the economy.
Georgian national currency has strengthened more than 23 tetri for the last 15 days and now 1 USD totals to 3.15 GEL.
“Strengthening of GEL is absolutely natural, the process accompanies to the consistent opening of the economy. Strengthening of GEL once again confirms the positive expectations and attitudes that exist from the private sector. Precisely these attitudes have created current situation. Once the economy is consistently opened, GEL will strengthen," Songhulashvili said.
On the question, how he sees the role of government in this process, the MP has answered that the government is pursuing a coherent policy in terms of opening up the economy.
"The government is pursuing a consistent policy of opening up the economy. These actions and policies are the result of GEL strengthening. In addition, the confidence in the steps taken by the government is quite high, the opening of the economy is going on consistently, hence the sentiment that the economy will recover at a fast pace is positive, all these led to the process of strengthening GEL," - said David Songhulashvili.
