After implementation of a family-friendly policy, 5 employees of “Meama” have already benefited from the paternity leave in 2022.

United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Conference held in Istanbul was attended by about 100 leaders of the governments and businesses from 12 countries of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Representatives of "Meama", "Tegeta" and Ministry of Internally Displaced Persons from the Occupied Territories, Health, Labor and Social Affairs of Georgia participated in the conference.

Advocacy for family-oriented and gender-responsive family policies is one of the essential priorities of UN Population Fund. Accordingly, the major subject of the conference was the introduction and implementation of family-oriented policies in the society, which contributes to the establishment of gender equality in the workplace, both in the private and public sectors.

The partner organizations from Georgia participated in the conference organized by United Nations Population Fund. Within the private sector panel, General Director of "Meama" Elene Varsemashvili shared the company's experience with the participants of the conference:

"At the beginning of 2022, "Meama" expressed its readiness to cooperate with the United Nations Population Fund and to introduce and implement a family-oriented policy in the company and in this way, to promote the establishment of gender equality in the workplace. Parents employed in "Meama", both women and men, use the parental leave intended for the birth of a child equally. After signing the memorandum, five employees of "Meama" have already benefited from paternity leave in 2022. The implementation of the family promotion policy is an important priority for our company and we are actively involved in the process of implementation of the issues stipulated by the memorandum."

According to the example of "Meama", we should mention that the introduction of family-oriented policies in companies contributes to the efficiency of employees and the working environment becomes even more comfortable for employees. Offering parental leave to fathers, mothers and families, as well as other family-supportive activities, is also very beneficial to employers in terms of increasing productivity in the workplace and deepening their commitment to the company.
