According to the head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), Amiran Gamkrelidze, a total of 5,000 people were vaccinated with 25,000 dozes of flu vaccine imported by the state in 10 days. The people belonged to the first risk group.
Gamkrelidze has stressed that the state will bring additional quantities of vaccine for the near future.
“5,000 people were vaccinated in 10 days. We know that demand is big and Georgia will receive additional 77 000 doses of flu vaccines on Sunday. The vaccine will be distributed throughout the country, so larger risk groups will be vaccinated, including persons aged 65 years and older, with chronic heart and lung disease, people with diabetes regardless of age, medical staff, etc.
However, I have information from the private sector that they are bringing additional 40,000 doses, so I think the end of October and November will be the period of active immunization. Vaccination against the flu is possible throughout the season, but it is better to have it now," - said Gamkrelidze.
