Georgian international airports are slowly returning back the passenger traffic, - Deputy General Director of TAV Georgia Tea Zakaradze told BM.GE. According to her, the airports returned 19% of 2019 passenger traffic in March 2021, while in the 1st week of April – 27%.

Tea Zakradze explained that comparison was basically made with 2019, because airports almost halted operations in 2020.

“How the process will continue depends on the epidemiological situations. The government is making everything to avoid COVID-19 spread, including “lockdown”. Nothing is unexpected that it is negatively reflected on our business. It occurs not only in Georgia but worldwide. There are airports, which operate under restrictions. In our case, we have open borders with some countries, but the regulations are variable.

The high pace of vaccination is a precondition to keep the airports’ load and air companies. Current vaccination pace in Georgia is too low”, - Tea Razmadze declared.

According to her, the interest of airlines is growing both towards Tbilisi and Batumi airports.

"Air Astana starts regular flights from Batumi Airport, we will have three flights to Almaty”, - Zakradze said.

According to her, Air company El AL and Pegasus also will start flights from Batumi. As for Tbilisi, Eurowings and Freebird airlines will perform flights from Tbilisi International Airport.
