Georgian PM meets with BP Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey

Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Gakharia met with Gary Jones, the Regional President for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey of the British multinational oil and gas company British Petroleum (BP) to discuss perspectives of strategic cooperation earlier today.

Gary Jones spoke about the South Caucasus Pipeline (SCP) and the completion of the key phase of the Shah Deniz 2 project, a gas field in Azerbaijan from where natural gas will be transported from the Caucasus through Georgia to Europe by the end of this year.

Gakharia noted the importance of Georgia’s regional transit function and spoke about the country’s needs in energy security.

BP expressed its increased interest in the region and in Georgia in the field of renewable energy production.

The sides expressed willingness to deepen cooperation.

BP entered Georgia in 1996 and is one of the largest investors in the country.
