Georgian PM Met With UK Parliamentary Delegation

Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia met a delegation of the UK Parliament led by MP Jonathan Djanogly. Georgia Friendship Group Chairman within the House of Commons.

The Head of Government of Georgia noted that the official visit of the delegation clearly evidences the strategic partnership existing between the two nations, thereby expressing hopes that already close relations will further intensify both in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Discussions at the meeting were related to the implemented and forthcoming democratic reforms, including the ones in the election and judiciary systems of Georgia.

Meeting was also focused on the military activities witnessed in Ukraine. The Prime Minister of Georgia highlighted that the country continues to provide political support to Ukraine in bilateral and multilateral formats.

Irakli Garibashvili underlined the most significant role of the international community - including the UK - in the region, particularly in ensuring the security in Eastern Europe. The Head of Government of Georgia noted that close cooperation between the UK and Georgia in the field of security acquires a special importance against the background of current challenges.

Chairman of the UK Parliamentary Delegation reaffirmed the solid support of sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia.

The Prime Minister of Georgia expressed his gratitude to the members of the House of Commons for the vital contribution made in the democratic development and advancement of Georgia through the Good Governance Fund (GGF).

Meeting held at the Government Administration was attended by H.E. Mark Clayton, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Georgia; Members of the House of Commons: MP Geoffrey Clifton Brown, MP Judith Cummins, MP Timothy Loughton, MP Jessica Morden and MP Mark Pawsey; attendees from the Georgian side included H.E. Sofie Katsarava, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Georgia to the UK.
