Georgia’s foreign exchange reserves hit a historic high in December 2021 and reached USD 4.27 billion, up by USD 340 million compared to November, - show data from the National Bank of Georgia.

The increase in reserves is likely due to the transfers of foreign loans attracted by the government. The volume of official reserves is grown by USD 360 million y-o-y.

The foreign exchange reserves include the IMF Special Drawing Rights (SDR), which amount to USD 486.6 million, while other assets total to USD 3.78 billion, of which securities mount to USD 2.5 billion and USD 1.28 billion is in cash.
