Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture Levan Davitashvili declares that the government finds it difficult to sell state-owned thousands of tons of alcohol.

The government has accumulated thousands of tons of alcohol due to the vintage subsidy program. In addition, in 2020 the state received an unprecedented amount of grapes, cost of 104 million GEL through the subsidies.

Most of the auctions announced by the state yesterday failed as well. State-owned alcohol worth 38 million GEL were not sold. The total volume of the alcohol amounted to 5,300,000 liters.

A total of 54 auctions were announced and only 9 of them ended with a positive result. 700,000 liters of cognac was sold for 5.1 million GEL.

According to the National Agency for State Property, more than 100 auctions were held this year for the sale of alcohol and wine, of which 1,976,000 liters of alcohol worth only 22.4 million GEL were sold.

“Several auctions were held, but all of them failed. In the process of privatization of state property, there is such a practice of holding a new auction with discounted price. We deeply hope that the state will be able to sell these stocks. We cannot tell you the exact amount, but it can be about 6,000 tons of alcohol, "- said Levan Davitashvili.
