The government approved a decree last month, which instructed the various sectors of business to install surveillance cameras.
According to the decree, this change serves security purposes. The installation of a video surveillance system is mandatory on a building owned by a person legally, where the following types of activities are carried out: wholesale or retail trade; hotels, restaurants, bars and etc.
The obligation arises when the VAT taxable turnover of the business entities has exceeded GEL 500,000 in the previous year.
In addition, the installation of a video surveillance system is mandatory by the following facilities, regardless of the VAT taxable turnover:
A) Inpatient medical institution;
B) Cigar bars;
C) Markets;
D) Shopping center.
Petrol gas stations, microfinance organizations, currency exchange booths must also install video surveillance cameras.
