Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control declares, that if the population follows all regulations, it will be less likely that there will be a third wave of coronavirus in Georgia.

As Gamkrelidze told InterpressNews, it is difficult to predict this, but according to him, nothing is ruled out.

"It is difficult to predict. In some countries there is a third wave, we are still on the second wave. If we follow all regulations, then it is less likely that we will have a third wave, but of course, it is not ruled out," - said Gamkrelidze.

He noted that further expansion of coronavirus testing is planned.

"Further expansion of testing is planned. As you know, shops will open and one of the conditions is that their employees should be tested once in 2 weeks. The positive rate for taxi drivers is about 0.6%, for market vendors it is also around 0.7%, and the positive rate for God servants is around 1.3%. About 3,000 employees of malls and shops have already been tested and only one tested positive. In general, the circulation of the virus in the country has decreased," Gamkrelidze said.

Shopping malls and shops open from February 1, but will remain closed on the weekends.
