Deputy Minister of Health Tamar Gabunia declares, that Remdesivir was requested for the treatment of 178 COVID-patients, but the Commission of Clinical Experts satisfied 167 requests. Only two cases of death were reported out of this group.

Deputy Minister refrains from assessing the effectiveness of the drug at this point since there is yet no valid scientific study in this regard.

"The condition of the patients receiving Remdesivir is satisfactory. There were two deaths in this group. Some of the patients completed treatment, while others still remain in the clinic. We do not have the data on how treatment with Remdesivir has improved patients’ conditions. This is not a clinical trial. This is the use of Remedisivir in clinical practice. Most of the patients who have received Remdesivir have recovered or are continuing their treatment, however, this does not mean that the result is related to the Remdesivir effect," the deputy minister said.

Tamar Gabunia says that the use of the drug is acceptable, although the WHO does not recommend it.

"We follow the recommendation outlined in the FDA report, which is also supported by the American Medical Association”, Gabunia said.
