Georgia purchased 716 thousand tons of oil products worth USD 719 million in the first seven months of 2022.

This amount is 77% more, compared to the previous year, which is related to the sharply increased fuel price. Quantitatively, the volume of imports has increased by only 25 thousand tons, which is a 4% increase.

The excise tax remained unchanged this year and it amounted to GEL 500 per ton. It is clear from the report published by the Ministry of Finance that in January-July 2022, the revenue from gasoline excise was GEL 165.2 million, and diesel excise was GEL 117.5 million. In addition, the income received from the excise duty of other petroleum products amounted to 16 million. In total, the budget received GEL 299 million from fuel excise this year. Excise tax per liter mounts to 38 tetri.

According to the report of the National Statistics Service, this year Georgia has changed the import markets of oil products. If in 2021, number one import market was Turkmenistan; the second - Romania. This year the largest volume of fuel was imported from the Russian Federation.

In more detail, fuel imports are distributed as follows:

1) Russia - USD 254 million, 262 thousand tons; Increase in amount of 270%;
2) Romania - USD 157 million, 152 thousand tons; Increase in amount by 103%;
3) Turkmenistan - USD 118 million, 114 thousand tons, increase in amount by 20%;
4) Bulgaria - USD 85 million, 85 thousand tons, increase in amount by 47%;
5) Azerbaijan - USD 49 million, 58 thousand tons, decrease in amount by 21%.
