Georgia's economy consumes less electricity due to the reduced economic activity, including manufacturing industry and tourism sector.

Electricity consumption has declined at the same pace as the country's economy is shrunk. In total, the country consumed 6.4% less electricity in the first 9 months of 2020.

According to official statistics, the country consumed 8.95 billion kWh of electricity this year, which is 615 million KWh less comparing to the same period of 2019.

As for electricity exports, exports have made up 152 million kWh, the rate is 36.4% down y-o-y.

Apparently, due to the decline in local consumption, imports have also been reduced to 926 million kWh. In 2019, that number exceeded 1 billion kWh.

With high probability, electricity consumption will not return to 2019 levels until 2021.
