How the Main Investor Country in Georgia has been Changing during Last 10 Years

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistics Office of Georgia, total volume of FDI attracted by Georgia during the first three quarters of 2020 amounted to US$ 719 million. With US$ 249, 705, 400 the UK is the top investor country in Georgia for now.

If the fourth quarter of 2020 will not show dramatic changes, the UK will become the main foreign investor to Georgia for the second time during the last ten years. For now, this is Azerbaijan that has been the major investor to our country for four times, since 2010.
 
BM.GE has looked into the top investor countries in Georgia during 2010-2020. Together with the total volume, we also compared the volume of FDI from EU member countries and CIS member countries.
 
In 2019 total volume of FDI to Georgia amounted to US$ 1,310,773, 700. The largest investor country was the UK with US$ 236,588,600. FDI volume from the EU member states totaled US$ 656,317,400, from CIS member states - US$ 139,184,200.
 
In 2018 total volume of FDI was US$ 1,306,290,000. The largest investor country was Azerbaijan with US$ 246,384,700. Overall FDI from the EU member states reached US$ 597,479,500, from CIS - US$ 294,335,600.

In 2017 total volume of FDI was US$ 1,978,281,500. The largest investor country – Azerbaijan, with US$ 460,499.000. Foreign investments from the EU member states: US$ 807,598,600, from the CIS member states: 519,341,100.
 
In 2016 total volume of FDI was US$ 1,652,577,300. The largest investor country was Azerbaijan, with US$ 555,138,200. Investments from the EU member states - US$ 415,940,000, from CIS member states: US$ 610,469,200.
 
In 2015 total volume of FDI was US$ 1,728,758,100. The largest investor country was Azerbaijan with US$ 581,739,100. FDI from the EU member states was US$ 816,497,200 and from the CIS member states – US$ 634,028,100.
 
In 2014 total volume of FDI amounted to US$ 1,836,980,000. The largest investor country was the Netherlands, with US$ 420,490,800. Volume of foreign investments from the EU member states - US$ 835,965,200 and from the CIS member states - US$457,690,300.
 
In 2013 total volume of FDI amounted to US$ 1,039,174,200. The largest investor country was the Netherlands, with US$ 159,181,100. FDI inflow from the EU member states - US$ 425,100,000 and from CIS member states - US$ 144,429,500.
 
In 2012 total volume of FDI - US$1,048,227,000. The major investor country was Germany, with US$ 142,405,600. FDI inflow from the EU member states: US$ 465,597,300 and from the CIS countries - US$ 98,578,500.
 
In 2011 total volume of FDI - US$ 1,133,971,100. The major investor country was the Netherlands, with US$ 244,536,300. Attracted investments from the EU member states - US$ 492,377,900 and from the CIS members - US$ 150,330,500.
 
In 2010 total volume of FDI - US$ 865,637,700. The largest investor country was the USA, with US$ 141,210,400. Foreign investments from the EU member countries amounted to US$ 251,870,000 and from the CIS members - US$ 133,845,800.
