The closure of the Lachin corridor, which is the only road connecting Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) and Armenia by Azerbaijan has caused a humanitarian disaster in Artsakh, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting on Thursday.

"The humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has become extremely severe in recent days. Azerbaijan has blocked the Lachin corridor and disrupted the gas pipeline that supplies natural gas to Nagorno-Karabakh from Armenia," he said.

According to him, as a result of these provocative actions, people in Nagorno-Karabakh lost their right to move freely, facing difficulties with heating their homes in winter, thousands of people, including children, were left on the roads.

Pashinyan noted that citizens with serious health problems are deprived of medicine and health care services, while supplies of food and other essentials are interrupted, ARKA reports.

Yesterday, Armenian media, with reference to Artsakh Information Center reported that "the closure of the Lachin corridor which is the only road connecting Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia by Azerbaijan and the blockage of natural gas supplies from Armenia have resulted in a shortage of gasoline, diesel fuel, liquefied and compressed gas."

"In order to avoid a fuel crisis, the government of the Republic of Artsakh has asked the locala business community to switch to economy mode. The gas stations will provide fuel in the first place to ambulances, public transport and special services," the Center said.

It also noted that the population will be additionally informed about the mechanisms and procedures for providing fuel.

Citizens are urged to use fuel sparingly and to use the vehicles only in case of emergency.
