Greece has celebrated 200 years of independence last week. As the Ambassador of Greece to Georgia, Dimitrios Karabalis considered, that was a time of a political and economic disaster, but the country learned a lot in terms of economic development.

The Ambassador of Greece to Georgia, Dimitrios Karabalis named several challenges for the country, noting that at the beginning Greece relayed a lot on loans and was very late to proceed with the agrarian reform.

“First of all, independent Geek state relayed a lot on loans, the only thing I can say this can be a political and economic disaster for a nation. The second is that we were very late to proceed with agrarian reform and finally we realized that a healthy modernized agriculture sector for a country like mine has been essential for the development”, Dimitrios Karabalis declared.

The Ambassador of Greece to Georgia declares that Greece has learned how important is diversification of the economy, as the country must rely on only one sector. As Dimitrios Karabalis noted, Greece found out that wide corruption was poisoning the healthy development of the economy and foundations of the modern states.

“We have made many mistakes and I hope Georgia will avoid them. We made too much exploitation of natural resources, which turned against us. We ruined what was a real attraction for foreigners, who were visiting us. Now we have to go back to the beginning”, Dimitrios Karabalis said.
