Amiran Gamkrelidze, head of the National Center for Disease Control, says that if there is not enough coverage of Covid vaccination in the country, the so-called fifth wave will end quite heavily. He says a fifth wave is expected in late November.

"The fifth wave will definitely be everywhere, all over the world, including us. If we vaccinate as much as possible and have high coverage, the fifth wave will be relatively light, and if we do not vaccinate, then the fifth wave will be heavy," Gamkrelidze said.

According to him, due to the rapid spread of the delta strain, vaccination of 60% of the population is no longer sufficient for general immunity and more people need to be vaccinated.

As of September 24, a total of 1,715,073 vaccinations have been administered in Georgia. 963,663 people - 33.9% of the adult population - have been vaccinated with at least 1 dose, and 751,410 people - 26.3% of the adult population have been fully vaccinated.
