According to the information provided by the Union of Oil Product Importers, the import of petrol and diesel fuel amounted to 890.9 thousand tons in Georgia, which is 19.3 thousand t i.e. 2.1% less than comparing to the same period of 2018 (910.2 thousand tons).

In January-October 2019, the import of petrol fuel amounted to 456.3 thousand t (up 4.5% or 1.0% compared to the same period last year), while the import of diesel fuel amounted to 434.6 thousand t. (decrease is 23.8 thousand t i.e. 5.2% if compared to the same period of the last year).

Union of Oil Product Importers says this year's statistics on diesel fuel have improved significantly over the past two months. In particular, 58.6 thousand tons of diesel fuel was imported in October, which is almost 10 thousand t more comparing to September.

“It will become clear in the coming months what caused the import increase. In particular, unregistered products is reduced or certain stocks of these products are created.

In fact, all the factors that determine diesel fuel consumption (auto fleet, infrastructure works, agricultural works, shipping) are high and respectively, the highest rate of import and consumption of diesel fuel should be fixed this year.

Import of petrol fuel and consumption are increased this year due to the recent increase of hybrid vehicle number (about 80 thousand hybrid vehicles operate in Georgia currently). Liquid gas (LPG) consumption is also increasing, which is an alternative product of gasoline fuel. There are over seven thousand vehicles and 200 gas stations, their number will be increased significantly in the future. The reason is price difference between the petrol fuel and liquid gas (LPG). There is almost a similar price difference between natural gas and gasoline”, the Union of Oil Product Importers notes.

According to the categories of fuel type, import of the petrol has made up in January-October, 2019: A-91 regular mark gasoline - 301.1 thousand t or 66.0%; A-95 premium brand petrol - 146.3 thousand t or 32.1%, A-98 super brand petrol - 8.9 thousand t or 8.9%.

According to the countries, the largest volume of gasoline and diesel fuel imports has been made from Russia - 274.6 thousand t i.e. 30.8% of total imports within 10 months of 2019. Then follows: Romania -243.3 thousand tons (27.3%), Azerbaijan - 124.2 thousand tons (13.9%), Turkmenistan - 103.7 thousand tons (11.6%); Bulgaria - 77.9 thousand tons (8.7%), Greece - 49.6 thousand t (5,6%), Turkey – 16,0 thousand t (1,8%) and etc.
